Miles per gallon. From fueleconomy.gov (U.S. EPA and Department of Energy) records for the 2026 Lexus NX, read November 2, 2026: the NX 350 versions are 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinders with an 8-speed automatic, and the NX 350h versions 2.5L four-cylinder hybrids with a continuously variable automatic. Fueleconomy.gov listed no 2026 NX 450h+ record on that date.

Three powertrains

NX 350: lexus.com lists a 2.4-liter turbocharged in-line four with 275 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds. All four 2026 NX 350 trims are all-wheel drive, and lexus.com lists each at 24 combined mpg.

NX 350h: a 2.5-liter in-line four hybrid with 240 net combined horsepower. Lexus.com lists front-wheel-drive versions at 40 combined mpg and AWD versions at 39 combined; fueleconomy.gov rates them 42 / 38 / 40 and 41 / 37 / 39 (city / highway / combined).

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid

Lexus.com lists the NX 450h+ with 304 net combined horsepower, all-wheel drive, a 0-60 mph time of 6.0 seconds, 84 combined MPGe, and a manufacturer-estimated all-electric driving rating of 37 miles. It is offered in Premium, Luxury and F SPORT Handling trims.

Lexus.com rates the NX 450h+ in MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) rather than mpg, and notes that beyond its electric driving it can also operate as a conventional gas/electric hybrid. Its MPGe figure is a different measure from the mpg ratings of the NX 350 and NX 350h, so the two are not a like-for-like comparison.

Why your NX's MPG drops in winter

Fueleconomy.gov says conventional gasoline vehicles can expect a 10% to 20% fuel economy loss in city driving and 15% to 33% on short trips in cold weather, and hybrids typically 20% to 40% in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips. Its reasons:

Cold fluids

Cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids increase friction in the engine and transmission.

Longer warm-up

The engine takes longer to reach its most fuel-efficient temperature, which hurts short trips most.

Heat and defrost

Heated seats, window defrosters and heater fans use extra power.

Tires and air

Tire pressure drops in the cold, and denser cold air adds drag at highway speeds.

Winter gasoline

Winter blends can have slightly less energy per gallon than summer blends.

Battery

Battery performance falls in the cold, which on hybrids also affects regenerative braking.

From fueleconomy.gov's Fuel Economy in Cold Weather page, read November 2, 2026.

Getting closer to the rated numbers

Fueleconomy.gov's cold-weather advice: park in a warmer place such as a garage, combine trips so you drive less often with a cold engine, keep warm-up idling short (it notes most manufacturers recommend driving off gently after about 30 seconds), use seat warmers and defrosters only as needed, check tire pressure regularly, use the oil your manufacturer recommends for cold weather, and remove roof racks when you are not using them.

Year-round, it says aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic, that mileage usually decreases rapidly above 50 mph, and that an extra 100 pounds in a vehicle could reduce mpg by about 1%.

2026 Lexus NX MPG FAQ

What MPG does the 2026 Lexus NX get?

Lexus.com lists 24 combined mpg for the NX 350 (gas, AWD), 40 combined for the front-wheel-drive NX 350h hybrid, 39 combined for the NX 350h with AWD, and 84 combined MPGe for the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid.

Which 2026 NX gets the best gas mileage?

Among the gas and hybrid versions, the front-wheel-drive NX 350h: fueleconomy.gov rates it 42 mpg city, 38 highway and 40 combined. The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid is rated in MPGe instead (84 combined on lexus.com).

What is the NX 350h AWD's MPG?

Fueleconomy.gov rates the 2026 NX 350h AWD at 41 mpg city, 37 highway and 39 combined, the same figures lexus.com quotes for NX Hybrid models.

How many electric miles does the NX 450h+ get?

Lexus.com gives the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid a manufacturer-estimated all-electric driving rating of 37 miles. When fueleconomy.gov was checked on November 2, 2026, it listed no 2026 NX 450h+ record, so the figures here for that model are Lexus estimates.

Does the Lexus NX need premium gas?

The fueleconomy.gov records for the 2026 NX 350, NX 350 F Sport, NX 350h and NX 350h AWD all name premium gasoline. The owner's manual and fuel-door label of a specific NX give its fuel requirement.

Is the gas NX 350 available with front-wheel drive?

Not for 2026 on lexus.com: all four NX 350 trims it lists (NX 350, Premium, Luxury and F SPORT Handling) are all-wheel drive. The NX 350h hybrid is offered with front-wheel drive or AWD.

Are there 2027 NX MPG ratings yet?

Not on the sources used here. On November 2, 2026, lexus.com described the redesigned 2027 NX as arriving in winter 2026, and fueleconomy.gov listed no 2027 NX. For a 2027 NX, check the EPA figures on its window sticker.

Why is my NX's MPG lower in winter?

Fueleconomy.gov says conventional gasoline vehicles can expect a 10% to 20% fuel economy loss in city driving in cold weather, and hybrids typically 20% to 40%, because of colder fluids, longer warm-ups, cabin heating, lower tire pressure, winter gasoline blends and reduced battery performance.
